Very popular at it’s time of creation, 1875-1908, the Guangxu Period, this Chinese Vase was perfect for western decorating of the era, and was fitting for ritual use on Asian ancestor’s altars.
Much symbolism is found in the details of this vase which include the fo dogs/lions as small handles on each side, the dragons or lizards which surround the shoulders, the fencai enamels which include one character wearing a masque and another on horse back, and the crackle glaze.
