A thing of beauty is a joy forever: its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness. — John Keats
A truly lovely piece has found its way to the Peddler. Perhaps you’ve heard the legend of the bridal or marriage cup that dates back to 1450 in Nuernberg, Germany…..
According to tradition, a nobel mistress fell in love with a goldsmith who didn’t meet her wealthy father’s approval. After the fair maiden spurned suitor after suitor, her father issued a task for the young goldsmith to perform and win her hand. He asked him to create a cup that two people could drink from at the same time without spilling a drop.
Inspired by his true love, the goldsmith created an ingenious cup that successfully met the directive. Of course, they were married and lived happily ever after — because a legend should give you a happy ending, right?
Now, couples are using these bridal cups to start their own legends and traditions. The cup used in their wedding is also used in anniversary celebrations. They’re starting their own legend…
You’ll have to drop by soon and see it for yourself. True love may wait, but this bridal cup may not linger here very long.
