The jewelry room at The Curious Peddler has beautiful pieces of jewelry of all sorts. Some of our recent additions are vintage costume jewelry made of ‘pot metal’. Pot metal is the base metal for jewelry that is plated. For example, underneath a silverplate piece item there is a metal that the silver is layered onto.
There’s no standard for pot metal, and it could be just about anything, as long as it was cheap. To compensate for the lackluster metals, the faux jewels in the costume jewelry was often exquisitely cut by hand. Sometimes they were semi precious stones, and sometimes exquisitely cut glass, and sometimes…they were actually valuable stones. In fact, we’ve seen $2500 opals in a pot metal set. We’ve seen Austrian crystals, too. You truly never know what you’re going to find in these works of art.
We almost always have a great selection of pot metal items on display, but right now we have an especially wonderful collection. We have lots of crystal brooches which are quite sought after for wedding jewelry. We have a rare elephant pin that the Peddler had only seen in pictures – until this one. We even have two Miriam Haskell necklaces and several other designer pieces that you simply must see.
For weddings, parties, proms, or gifts, come to our vintage jewelry room. It’s pot luck, but more often than not, our pot metal pretties are going to make you feel like you’ve found a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
